The man and woman stand facing each other. The man scoops up one of her legs and then proceeds to penetrate her. Also known as "Semigake" (Cicada on the tree), "Koi-no-Takinobori" (Carp swimming up the waterfall) or "Tachi Dori" (Doing it standing up).
Origin of the name
A kanae is an ancient Chinese bronze vessel that stands on three legs. With both partners standing and one of her legs scooped up, exactly three legs remain on the floor — hence the name "Tripod." Its aliases, "clinging cicada" and "carp climbing the falls," paint the same picture from different angles.
Tips
Balance is the main challenge. Having the woman stand against a wall, or resting her raised leg on the edge of a bed, makes it far more stable. Adjust for height with tiptoes or a low step. The man should cradle the raised leg in the crook of his elbow and keep movements slow. Demanding, but the standing intimacy is unique.
