Origin of the name
A shumoku is the T-shaped wooden striker used to ring a temple bell — the same word gives the hammerhead shark its Japanese name, shumoku-zame. Lying back on top of him, her outstretched arms form the head of the hammer and her straight torso the handle. Borrowing the name of a Buddhist implement to capture nothing but a silhouette: shijūhatte's eye for shape at its sharpest.
Tips
She lies face-up on top of him, so neither can see the other's face — talk, and use your hands to signal. The angle tends to run shallow; if she plants her feet on the floor with knees bent, she can control her own hip height and keep the fit secure. He supports her back and hips and thrusts in short strokes from below. Her full weight rests on his chest, so check he can breathe comfortably before you settle in.
